The year 2021 is a year for the elects of God.

What does the word elect mean?
The word “elect” simply means “chosen” and it is clearly translated in 1 Peter 2:9-10.

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light: Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy.”
– 1 Peter 2:9‭-‬10 KJV

We can learn from that scripture how we are truly God’s chosen people.


In apostle Peter’s epistle, he referred to the early Christians as strangers in this world but most importantly as elect. We’ll be examining this closely to help us understand what it means to be elect.

“Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the strangers scattered throughout Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia, Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.”
1 Peter 1:1‭-‬2 KJV


This means that we are a part of God’s predetermined plan. The word “foreknowledge” comes from the word “prognosis” which means “pre-arrangement”.
What this means, in essence, is that being the elect of God is in keeping with God’s plan which He designed beforehand.
This pre-arrangement is also explained in another epistle to the Ephesian Church by apostle Paul in this way:

“For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will”
– Ephesians 1:4‭-‬5 NIV


– Was planned before the world began;
– Demands that the elects be holy and blameless;
– Requires the elects being adopted as sons;
– It is according to God’s good pleasure;
– It has a goal that the elects walk in good works. (Read Ephesians 2:10)

This election is general and corporate (body of Christ) but we must diligently make our calling and election sure. (Read 2 Peter 1:1-11)


We become God’s elect through the sanctifying work of the Holy Spirit. Sanctification is the process by which we are set apart for God’s purpose by the help of the Holy Spirit.

“Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.”
– 1 Corinthians 6:9‭-‬11 KJV

“But we ought always to thank God for you, brothers and sisters loved by the Lord, because God chose you as firstfruits to be saved through the sanctifying work of the Spirit and through belief in the truth.”
– 2 Thessalonians 2:13 NIV

The Holy Spirit accomplishes the work of sanctification in us through the word of God. That’s why we must make it our goal this year to grow the word of God in us.

“I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.”
– John 16:12‭-‬13 KJV

It was the will of God for the Holy Spirit to reveal the word of God to the early apostles just as it is still His will today towards us. It is through this revealed word by the Holy Spirit that we too are sanctified i.e. set apart to God.

“Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.”
– John 17:17 NIV

When we obey the word of God which has been revealed by the Holy Spirit we become chosen to salvation through the sanctification of the Holy Spirit and our believe in the truth. (Read 2 Thessalonians 2:13-17)

Now that you know that you are a part of God’s eternal plan as an elect, being an elect comes with many privileges and also calls for certain responsibilities.
The year 2021 is a year that the elects of God would enjoy many divine privileges on earth even as they take on certain divine responsibilities. I would not talk about year 2021 in the prophetic timeline yet but in a later article but you need to know what your basic responsibilities are as an elect of God.


We have a responsibility to obey. According to Ephesians 2:10, before time began, it was part of God’s plan that the people of God would walk in good works, which is part of what the grace of God does. (Read Titus 2:11-14)
Although we don’t earn salvation through our good works but we must be diligent in doing them. (Read Titus 2:8,14)

Our responsibilities basically include the following among so many others:

▪Obeying the gospel of our Lord Jesus.

“For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?”
– 1 Peter 4:17‭-‬18 KJV

▪Hearkening to God’s command to be holy, as holiness produces power.

“Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: But as he which hath called you is holy, so be ye holy in all manner of conversation; Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy.”
– 1 Peter 1:13‭-‬16 KJV

▪Submitting to civil authorities.

“Submit yourselves to every ordinance of man for the Lord’s sake: whether it be to the king, as supreme; Or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well. For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloak of maliciousness, but as the servants of God. Honour all men. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honour the king. Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.”
– 1 Peter 2:13‭-‬18 KJV

▪Obeying the gospel mandate to preach the gospel!

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.”
– Mark 16:15 KJV


Being an elect of God means that we have the blessing of forgiveness.

– Firstly we receive forgiveness no matter what our past may have been, just like Saul of Tarsus, when we become born again and are baptized into Christ.

“And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there, Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him. And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth. For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard. And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.”
– Acts 22:12‭-‬16 KJV

– Subsequently, we receive forgiveness when we confess our sins throughout our daily walk with God. Those who are God’s elects don’t hide their sins from God.

“If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”
– 1 John 1:6‭-‬10 KJV


You are if you have answered the call of the gospel through the obedience of faith but if you have not obeyed the gospel please do so now. Hearken to these wholesome warnings:

“For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God?
– 1 Peter 4:17 KJV

“And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power; When he shall come to be glorified in his saints, and to be admired in all them that believe (because our testimony among you was believed) in that day.”
– 2 Thessalonians 1:7‭-‬10 KJV

If you stand right with God you’ll harness the divine possibilities prepared by God for His elect in the year 2021.

In Jesus’ name, our heavenly father we thank you for your grace bestowed upon us and for ushering us into this new year. Thank you for the wonderful plans you have for all who love you this year. We, therefore, pray in Jesus’ name that you’ll teach us your word and direct our path this year.
We consecrate ourselves unto you that you may use us for your glory. Help us to diligently seek you and let your presence be with us all through the days of this year in Jesus’ mighty name we pray. Amen!
